Perform are looking for an experienced Senior News Editor to run the day to day operation of our global sports Newsdesk as part of our newly formed Global Content Network structure.
HERE'S SOME INFORMATION FOR YOU
We're looking for someone with a passion for breaking sports news and the drive to react quickly and efficiently when those stories happen. Someone with a contacts book that will help us provide the best coverage to more than 200 clients around the world.
A person with a working knowledge of sports media rights and the many geo-blocks and duration restrictions that come with them around the sporting world. Not to mention, someone who knows their sport inside out - from football to F1, tennis to basketball and everything in between.
A true all-rounder capable of liaising and adding value to colleagues and workflows across 18 locations, multiple timezones and three verticals of Video, Editorial and Data Editorial. The ability to self-shoot news content is preferred but not essential.
HERE'S A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU'LL DO (NOT ALL OF IT, JUST THE MOST IMPORTANT STUFF)
* Lead the day to day newsgathering for our Omnisport global sports news service
* React to the biggest breaking news stories in world sport by sourcing reaction for our Video and Editorial services
* Control the annual newsgathering budget and deliver monthly reporting
* Work with our Planning Editor and regional Senior Editors to schedule our newsgathering calendar
* Build contacts in the sports industry to develop access for our journalists across the globe
* Manage and develop a team to assist in the day to day running of the desk.
DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?
* Substantial experience in a live newsroom environment in a news or sports media organisation
* A working knowledge of sports rights and how they affect newsgathering operations
* Experience of leading a team and managing staff
* An excellent contacts book across sports
* Strong understanding of media law
* A passion for sport around the globe.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD THESE DESIRABLES TOO
* Experience using content management systems
* Past roles working in a news agency environment
* A keen eye on technological innovations to improve internal workflows
* Camera skills - shooting for news (press conferences and training vision).
