From EastEnders, Doctors and Casualty to River City and Pobol y Cwm, our programmes remain a constant source of gripping entertainment, featuring cliff-hanger storylines and much-loved characters with whom our viewers have grown up.
A fast paced BAFTA winning Continuing Drama about the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department, charting the ups and downs in their personal and professional lives whilst tackling many controversial and taboo issues. Through great writing and visual flair the show balances gritty realism with high drama to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, week in week out.
Casualty shoot on location every week, following our teams of Paramedics as they are called on to help the public, often in extreme circumstances. The locations we use are many and varied from nightclub or mountainside to a high rise flat, and they all come with different challenges for each department which need to be considered whilst delivering the best possible canvas for our stories.
As well as taking on 3 shooting blocks per series as Location Manager where you will scout, contract and manage locations, as Senior Location Manager you will lead a team of freelance Location and Unit Managers across the series.
Role Responsibility
You'll report to Rachel Slater, Line Producer
Manage a team of Location Managers and Unit Managers
Negotiate competitive prices for location hire. Identify costs associated with each location
Attend Script meetings and interpret scripts to identify the need for different types of locations in good time, often ahead of the episode team starting
Discuss requirements with directors, designers and other department heads to assess relevant locations
Find and research locations, assessing them in terms of financial affordability, location practicality and suitability for given productions
Maintain detailed, reliable information sources about locations, including their ownership, directions and facilities
Manage a budget to ensure high-quality, cost-efficient outcomes
Ensure compliance with local regulations, as well as other contractual obligations (A competency of risk assessments is required)
Organise recce schedules for production, investigating potential problems that could arise, whilst always being in contact with local residents within a shooting area of up and coming filming and dealing with any issues that could arise
Recruit and induct new starters so they are confident with our systems and protocols
Manage a database of previously used locations to ensure continuity is maintained
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you must be able to demonstrate:
Proven experience of working in Scripted Drama as a Location Manager, preferably on a Continuing Drama Series
Proven ability to source suitable locations, with highly developed negotiation skills
Demonstrable experience of establishing constructive relationships with location owners
Ability to raise contracts and other legal documentation
Financial and budgeting abilities
Current knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and associated procedures, including how to comply with regulatory requirement
Knowledge and passion for Continuing Drama, especially Casualty
Ability to lead offering guidance and experience to those in your team
