The Senior Designer will work as part of the Design, Props and Construction Management team helping to deliver across all of these areas in the design on EastEnders. They will be line managed by the Series Designer and will assist them in the smooth running of the design, props and construction departments as well as contributing creatively in their own right.
Role Responsibility
The postholder will be responsible for the following duties
This role will also involve budgeting, staffing, recruitment and pastoral care, risk assessment and safety management.
To assist the Series Designer at all times to effectively manage the delivery of successful set design on the production
To design a minimum of 6 blocks of 4 x episodes during the year, while still helping with some departmental business as usual
To take on the design of some new sets when other design staff may not be available due to workload
To cover as designer on additional filming days such as post shoots and pickup days unless already filming on a block
To act as Series Designer to cover periods of leave/sickness as necessary or during particularly busy periods
To help with both new recruitment, staffing and training within the design department and act as mentor to junior members of the team
To read all scripts and story documents and have a broad knowledge of all relevant information contained in them
To assist with forward planning and advise on any design related issues involved when necessary
To work with the scheduling team and Line Producer to ensure the smooth running of the production and to deliver sets on time and on budget
To work with the construction management team to monitor and maintain standards of finish on stock sets and the backlot to ensure the highest possible quality on the show.
To attend and report back on meetings when the Series Designer is not available.

An in depth knowledge, experience of and enthusiasm for designing for continuing drama
Significant experience of putting together and running large teams of staff
Willing to work flexibly to the direction of the series designer and senior production staff to deliver successful design on the show
Able to handle extremely sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion
Able to work highly collaboratively, understanding when to use own initiative and when to refer up
Have a wide and detailed knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation including the role of CDM and be willing to advise both own teams and the wider production if necessary
Have extensive contacts within the industry and be able to call on them to source staff and contractors
Able to both lead and work as part of a team led by others, understanding their own role and responsibilities within the department
Understand budgets and financial drivers and be able to adhere to and report back on them
Willing to identify new and different products and ways of working that help improve the systems and methods on the show as well as advance environmental initiatives
