The Discovery team own BBC Children's relationship with the audience. We cover everything from Presentation to publishing on our TV Channels, CBeebies and CBBC, as well as iPlayer. We oversee Children's digital platforms for 0-16s, including Newsround and our suite of CBeebies apps for our youngest audience, as well as our growing YouTube portfolio and social media channels. We're responsible for working closely with programme-makers, Design & Engineering and the wider BBC to ensure our brilliant content and products reach as big an audience as possible.

Stepping Out is the audience connection scheme for BBC Children's. It has three main objectives; bringing staff face to face with their audience, gaining direct feedback from children and young people, and giving something back to our audience by building relationships within our communities.

Role Responsibility
To plan, coordinate and manage the delivery of 1-2research sessions each week during term time, as well as sessions with extra-curricular or community groups during school holiday periods, managing groups of 30 children and BBC staff attending sessions.
To design bespoke interactive website and app sessions to meet specific briefs from commissioning, development, production and digital teams within BBC Children's.
To work with Stepping Out Manager and Production teams to determine areas of focus for research with 2-16-year-olds across the academic year
To evaluate, collate and interpret insights from sessions, delivering specific feedback in report form, as well as keeping the department updated on general trends and findings through the department intranet site, noticeboards and in presentations in meetings where appropriate.
To proactively provide insight on current trends and advice on the target age groups to help shape ideas for further development.
To provide administrative support for the Stepping Out Manager and Co-ordinator in delivering sessions for 2-12-year-olds where necessary.
To build and maintain relationships within Children's and other BBC North/wider BBC departments regarding Stepping Out sessions.
To build and maintain relationships with new and existing external organisations (such as schools, extra-curricular and community groups), ensuring these reflect the diversity of BBC Children's target audiences.
To provide additional support for outreach and partnership events for Children's as and when required


Are you the right candidate?

As our ideal candidate, you will have a background in teaching/facilitation and/or experience of working with children and young people on a regular basis.

You will have excellent communication skills and an ability to establish rapport very quickly and effectively with adults, children and young people.

You will ideally be familiar with research techniques and have the ability to sift through information and select what is significant.

Good planning and organisational skills are essential.

It would also be highly beneficial if you bring a working knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding.
