We have a superb, new opportunity for a Senior Broadcast Engineer to join ABC News, based in Hammersmith London.Working as part of the operations team of the London News Bureau this role provides full engineering services to the news gathering teams on location and in the London bureau.Responsibilities:Responsible for overseeing and maintaining all of the technical equipment at the London Bureau, including IP and fibre transmission, edit rooms, MCR installations, upgrades, satellite dishes and newsroom camerasSeek out and embrace new technologies for newsgathering, introducing them to support operations and news gatheringResponsible for the operation and maintenance of the ABC News satellite truck, ensuring this is ready at all times to be deployed as directedOperate and maintain satellite uplinks and all other engineering field transmission equipment at the London Bureau and remotelyOversee the maintenance of the ENG equipmentTravel to breaking news, or planned news event locations, as a field engineer providing services to news teams on locationSupport the MCR as requiredParticipate or lead bureau operations and engineering projectsDeputise for the Senior Technical Manager as requiredSkills/Experience:Education to degree level in a related Engineering field, followed by selective theory and practical training courses during employment, or equivalent work experienceKnowledge of IP would be advantageousSelf-motivated and clear thinking with the ability to intelligently prioritise conflicting tasksExcellent communication skills. The ability to break down complicated technical concepts and explain them to non-technical people would be an advantageAs there will be times when issues arise outside normal working hours a willingness to be flexible in hours worked is essentialA high standard of computer literacyThe ability to assess complex technical projects and problems and formulate cost effective solutionsProven experience as a senior technical operations or engineering position within broadcast television, and be conversant with a wide range of technical terms, concepts, equipment and procedures relating to the fieldFlexible and adaptable team playerABC News is the Company's US news network based in New York. In the UK, we have a London Bureau, which serves as a hub for covering international news and feature stories for the ABC News network programmes. The London Bureau regularly contributes reports for such shows as 'Good Morning America', 'World News', 'Nightline', 'This Week' and all Digital platforms. The team here works on all aspects of news gathering, reporting and transmission to provide quality material on top stories in the UK and EMEA regions for our US broadcasts
