Script Writer

London

Zinc produces hundreds of high-impact short videos for our clients and partners each year, often reaching audiences of millions around the world via social networks.

As a freelance scriptwriter for us, you will be responsible for helping to produce finely crafted videos that perform well on the news feed. You will do this by taking a complex brief - often involving dense policy research - and turning it into a highly engaging and effective short script, to be produced by our production team.

Working with our Director of Content and our producers, you will be able to identify the most effective hooks for a story, distil complex information into clear and engaging prose, and suggest creative and entertaining treatments to appeal to a wide audience. You will have an outstanding knowledge of social media formats, and an instinct for what is going to perform well on each platform.

Ideally you will have experience of working on current affairs / journalistic issues, as well as experience of social media scripting.

Key responsibilities:
* Produce engaging scripts for short current affairs focused videos for social platforms
* Suggest creative treatments and visual approaches for the videos
* Condense dense research to identify the most salient information and the most compelling 'hooks' for video content
* Write clear, effective, engaging copy that grabs the audience's attention and draws them into subjects they might not otherwise consider.
* Ensure attention to detail (spelling, grammar etc) in presentation of written work.
* Ensure scripts are accurate, rigorous, fact checked, and strategically appropriate for the needs of our clients and partners.
* You may be asked to participate in internal and client reviews, communicating creative vision and proposals effectively.
* Take feedback well and be prepared to revise your scripts in order to meet the needs of our clients, partners and internal stakeholders.

Requirements
* Understanding of social media platforms
* Extensive experience of scripting (you will be asked to provide work samples), ideally including short-form social video
* Experience of current affairs / news / features / other journalistic production is desirable
* Experience of condensing complex information into simple, clear and engaging copy
* Creative approach to scripting, able to suggest original approaches, formats and treatments
* Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
* Meticulous attention to detail
* Positive and flexible 'can-do' attitude and willingness to solve problems
* Willingness to take feedback
* Ability to get on well with the team
