With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Scripted Production makes some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as River City, EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, Pobol y Cwm and Doctors and Daytime Series & Serials such as Father Brown and Shakespeare & HathawayRole ResponsibilityYou'll report to Sarah Beeson, Script ProducerYou'll be expected toThe successful candidate ensures that commissioned scripts are of the required standard whilst conforming to the editorial brief and are available for use at the appropriate time.The requirement to advise on all script related matters associated with the production and to manage the relationship between the writer and the production whilst generating creative and story ideas of the highest standard consistent with Casualty. Your duties will includeThroughout the production, to represent the interests of the writer to the production team. To ensure that the author consents to major script changes and to convey the writer's point of view in his/her absenceTo preserve the quality of the working relationship between the Production team/Director and writerTo ensure that writers are sufficiently aware of the financial implications of editorial decisionsTo be responsible for providing writers with sufficient information to enable the editorial brief to be met in respect of style, content, form and any other special considerationsTo ensure the consistent treatment of established characters and continuity within the story line and episodesWhere necessary to restructure and generate new storylines within your scriptsTo generate creative ideas and long term story ideasTo turn drafts around quickly and creatively and to ensure all deadlines are metWhere appropriate, to refer to the Script Producer to resolve doubts or competing views that may arise in relation to the script at any timeTo co-ordinate and communicate all script changes to those concernedTo manage communication with medical advisors and co-ordinate all medical, technical and editorial notes effectivelyTo seek new material and take steps to identify and encourage new writing talent.
