The Role
To report with authority on science and data for Channel 4 News across TV & digital. To tell stories that matter in a clear and impactful way covering technology, data developments, artificial intelligence, scientific breakthroughs, climate change and the environment. Editorial responsibility includes breaking stories, giving understanding to complex issues, and providing broader context. This position would be based in the North of England - and in Leeds when the new Channel 4 hub is opened.

Responsibilities
* To build original & exclusive news stories in your subject area
* Provide packaged news reports to Channel 4 News 7pm programme, weekend programmes and digital outlets
* Comment on breaking news at short notice with an ability and authority to go live
* To master complex theories and information, and broadcast effectively to the Channel 4 News audience
* To act as a thought leader on this important science brief across the news department and digital
* Keep up to date with the latest technological and digital developments
* Contribute to editorial coverage strategy for your unit
* Give analysis and political context of science, environment and data stories
* Work collectively with Channel 4 News planning desk and news desk
* Bring, build and maintain key professional contacts

Qualifications
* Excellent understanding and knowledge of science, technology, data stories, environmental and climate issues
* Drive, enthusiasm and ability to set the editorial agenda
* Ability to work independently and with initiative and creativity
* Proven experience of broadcasting
* Track record of original journalism or breaking stories
* Ability to write and package broadcast news, often under pressure and to deadline
* Willingness to work with colleagues on production of reports
* Excellent inter-personal and contact-building skills
* Strong understanding of Channel 4 News agenda and audience profile
* Understanding of the need to be flexible on working times and hours
* Thorough understanding of legal and ethical issues surrounding broadcast journalism
* Work in accordance with ITN Health and Safety and Compliance guidelines
