Runner Pool

Glasgow

BBC Scotland is looking to expand its successful Runners Pool by recruiting Runners to work across the organisation in content making.

Production Runners are an integral member of the production team, performing important tasks in the office, around the set and on location. Their duties may involve anything from office administration to crowd control and from public relations to clearing locations.

We want Runners to join our database of people who can be offered contracts as and when they arise. Please note that these opportunities do not relate to specific posts: successful candidates will be considered for shifts/contracts as and when openings become available during the coming months

You'll be expected to work flexibly and adapt to the ever-changing needs of production. You will need to manage your time effectively and maintaining good communication with the Production Manager/Production Co-ordinator/Unit Manager as to your workload and capacity

Production work can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight schedules. Normal office hours will generally apply, but a flexible approach to working time is required subject to the BBC's Condition of Service Code of Practice and Equal Opportunities policies



Role Responsibility

You'll be involved in numerous projects and provide support to a wide range of individuals and teams

Pre-shoot preparation (under instruction from production team)

Data wrangling / logging and transfers

Technology awareness - the ability to work with new and emerging technologies to deliver content to audiences in effective way. The ability to embrace new ways of working.

Generate, and contribute ideas to television production and interactive teams for online and television output.

Self-shooting skills is preferable. Should have experience of collating file-based material from second cameras and/or G-Pro footage.

Must have a good understanding of production techniques and procedures, including an understanding of the potential of multi-platform and an aptitude to learn online skills preferred.

Demonstrable interest in the media. Particular knowledge of content making and the types of network programming. Should have a good knowledge and understanding of the output of BBC and their competitors

Effective team worker - able to manage relationships effectively and work collaboratively within a diverse team

Understands the importance of BBC values, policies, procedures and guidelines, including Health & Safety guidelines

Experience of working effectively with a team - able to demonstrate judgement on appropriate referral of issues to more experienced members of the production team.



The Ideal Candidate

You should have a passion for broadcasting and the media

Ability to use IT proficiently, including a range of software packages.

Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective relations with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

Effective time management and organisational skills and the initiative to work both independently and as part of a team.

Ability to prioritise a conflicting workload efficiently and to maintain standards of accuracy and attention to detail when working to deadlines or changing priorities.

Resilience and stamina to sustain performance when under pressure from a high volume of work and conflicting priorities, with a flexible approach to deal with a changing environment.

Ability to use own initiative with confidence, using judgement to escalate where necessary.

Contribute to the creative vision of the team.

An up to date knowledge of the BBC's diverse audiences and their needs and expectations and use this to contribute to creative and engaging output.

The ability to problem solve and suggest effective solutions.

Awareness of financial responsibility, as may be required to keep track of petty cash and receipt recordkeeping.
