Overview
You will deliver stories in the North of England and beyond for ITV News, reporting across all ITV platforms and driving coverage from the region.

We want our North of England reporter to be our eyes and ears across the region. Not only to cover the hugely busy day-to-day news agenda, but also to drive original and distinctive journalism that reflects the lives and issues affecting those that live in the North of England.

You will work in a team alongside a Producer, three Multi-skilled Camera Operators and, from later in the year, a Junior Reporter. We expect exceptional team work and commitment to helping run the agenda out of the North of England.

This is a fantastic and rare opportunity for the right journalist. ITV News prides itself on reflecting the world away from London and this is an exciting chance to do this at the front and centre of our programmes and digital content.

We would ideally like the successful candidate to be based in Greater Manchester, but we remain open and flexible to ideas.

Responsibilities
Producing well-researched, filmed and structured packages and lives for ITV News programmes
Identify and drive original journalism reflecting the issues most important to the North of England
Providing written and video content for ITV News digital platforms
Work with the wider Northern bureau to identify stories and work on stories as required by the newsdesk
Work with the wider Northern bureau to create an effective diary of upcoming stories in the patch and alongside the other ITV News regional bureaux
Work with the Planning Desk to ensure stories are well planned
Newsgather material where appropriate for other reporters and correspondents' packages
Work closely with ITV Regional newsrooms and maintaining good day to day relationships with journalists and management
Build and maintain key contacts with establishments and individuals in the region
Be prepared to regularly work elsewhere in the UK and abroad as stories demand
Manage health and safety in the field
Be aware of financial implications of day to day news coverage

Qualifications
Strong understanding of the ITV news agenda and the requirements of all ITV news platforms.
An ability to self-edit and self-shoot would be preferable, but not essential
High quality news judgement, initiative and self-motivation
Able to write concisely with clarity and to make creative television and digital packages
A commitment to creating news coverage that reflects the diversity of Britain's communities
Knowledge and understanding of the region you will be working in and a brimming contacts book
Experience of reporting on location, producing packages and lives to deadlines and specific durations.
Strong broadcast voice
Good interpersonal skills
A team player
Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
Good knowledge of relevant technology and willingness to embrace and exploit new innovations
Experience of using social media for newsgathering and broadcasting
A passion for developing innovative ways of covering news on digital platforms
Firm knowledge of media law and its implications for broadcast
Work independently, with initiative
