Channel 5 daytime panel show The Wright Stuff is looking for an experienced programme editor to plan, write and produce the show's lively topical debates, news review and guest interviews. The successful candidate should also have experience of outputting live television and managing a team. They should have a combination of a strong journalistic background with a thorough knowledge of daytime television. We are actively seeking candidates from a diverse background.
Responsibilities
Building rundowns and overseeing all elements of the planning of the show in the two days prior, including pitching ideas, writing scripts, making editorial judgements and being across selection and edit of picture.
Coming up with distinctive and clever ways to cover the stories making headlines, as well as less news-driven debates, bearing in the mind the style, tone and audience of The Wright Stuff.
Knowledge of Ofcom is essential.
Managing a team of assistant producers and researchers whose responsibilities include edit, briefs and story/guest research.
Making decisions on legal issues and taste and decency, in accordance with Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual.
On a show morning: contributing to the morning editorial meeting, assisting with the scripting of any new parts, overseeing the selection and edit of any new picture needed and doing a final check of the entire rundown.
In the gallery: working alongside the editor/deputy editor by continuing to be across all of the above, as well as being responsible for running order changes and responding to breaking news.
Outputting the show in the gallery when necessary.
Qualifications
Previous experience in daily/topical shows is essential
Knowledge and experience of topical issues and current affairs
Editorially creative and imaginative
Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/visual)
Excellent writing and production skills
Experience in outputting live television
The highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
Experience of legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authority
Enthusiastic and passionate
Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
Ability to work to tight deadlines
