Programme Assistant

London

In conjunction with another Programme Assistant, to support management in the administration of a busy but friendly newsroom, including the planning, managing and changing of rosters with an understanding of the need for operational flexibility in the 5 News division. This is a key role in supporting 5 News editorial ambitions and the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can solve problems creatively.
Responsibilities

Responsible for rostering 50% of 5 News staff, including Presenters/Correspondents/Reporters
Reacting to a fast-paced environment - including breaking news - in liaison with the Deputy Editor, to make ensure the highest quality news programmes.
Book freelancers as staff cover and for any extra newsroom requirements.
Manage holiday requests in liaison to ensure adequate cover.
Track overtime hours worked for News staff and manage hours/days back.
Check and amend freelance cost sheets, approve timesheets and process invoices.
Process expenses for approval, raising queries regarding spend where necessary.
Input expense claims and freelance hires on the appropriate cost managers.
Assist with raising budgets and cost reports for certain foreign deployments and UK specials
Alongside another Programme Assistant, provide general administrative support to the newsroom, including office management.
Responsible for overseeing make up and stationery budgets, including replenishing supplies.
Liaise with other ITN administrators and departments to effectively manage resources.
Operate autocue regularly for the news programmes.
Qualifications

Highly organised and methodical with exceptional attention to detail.
Proactive with excellent forward planning and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure in a newsroom and studio with live, daily transmissions.
Computer literate with good knowledge of Excel.
Confident and persuasive with strong problem-solving skills, often to tight deadlines.
Flexible and adaptable with ability to work well in a team and independently.
