Production Manager

London

We are looking for a Production Manager to join our core team for a five-month full time contract position. Ideally we would like to start this position on late January 2020 - however this is flexible. There is potential for contract extension.

As the Production Manager you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the load in, build and take down of the production. The production will be taking place in a site specific location, therefore one of your first tasks will be managing the preparation work so that the site is ready and safe for the load in. This is an ambitious and technically challenging production that will require someone that is resourceful and practical, but diligent about all details relating to health and safety.

Roles and responsibilities

* Ensure that all production activity adheres to health and safety guidelines and that the site is secure.
* Work with the directors to understand the creative vision and to ensure the build satisfies this goal.
* Work closely with the Show Producers and Directors to ensure the build and construction is on track.
* Track and monitor the progress of contractors to ensure the build is completed on time, budget and to the quality required.
* Get the maximum value from the allocated budget for completing the build - while still keeping tight control on cost.
* Manage the requisition of materials and the disposal of refuse
* Liaise with various technical suppliers to create a reliable infrastructure throughout the site for power, lighting, and other utilities.
* Manage the creation of custom builds and technical work
* Project manage the logistics and dependencies of build work taking place on site and off site.Manage the construction of build work taking place off site.
* Recruit other members of the production as well as assisting in the selection of build contractor.
* Work alongside the Health and Safety Assessor to identify and mitigate risks and implement any recommendations.

To do this job well, you will need to:

* Have an excellent understanding of building construction, deconstruction and theatre sets. Sets will be mutli layered more akin to housing construction than traditional theatre sets. Any knowledge in technical theatre design would be highly desirable as there will be mechanized aspects to the show design.
* Be able to anticipate and mitigate issues and dependencies that come up when using different teams of contractors.
* Have excellent technical knowledge to be able to liaise with outside suppliers such as power, lighting, sound, etc.
* Be good at managing costs and be budget aware.
* Be able to prioritise tasks and work in high pressure conditions
* Occasionally work 12-15 hours per day (while loading in and during build) and be prepared to work hours required to deliver the build on schedule.
* Foster good working relationships with a range of different types of people from different backgrounds and experience levels.
* Be passionate about delivering impactful art and creating realistic environments.

The following skills and experience may be advantageous, so make sure you mention it in your application:

* Prior experience with site specific build theatre
* A track record that demonstrates construction management skills
* Experience working on productions with lots of technical elements
* Experience repurposing industrial or disused spaces and making them safe for public use.
