Economist Films is the award-winning factual production arm of the global current-affairs newspaper, The Economist. Economist Films captures The Economist's globally curious outlook in short, mind-stretching films, which offer clear, sharp analysis of a subject, presented in a compelling and digestible way. On average our films are viewed 30 million times across 15 platforms every month. They are distributed via the publisher's editorial channels and social platforms including Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram IGTV. They can also be viewed on Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Google Chromecast, Android TV & ROKU, among others.

Economist Films are looking for a highly skilled and talented Producer/Director to join the production team. You will be responsible for originating films for The Economist's twice-weekly 'Daily Watch' and you will be an integral part of the team tasked with developing and launching a new weekly format for our YouTube channel.

The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience in originating and developing innovative video content ideas and treatments for films. They will be confident with self- shooting, script writing and producing online film and video from 2 to 20 minutes in length and they will have direct experience of creating content for YouTube. Basic self-editing skills would also be useful as would any experience building engagement with an audience on social media (whether on or off-camera).

The ideal candidate will understand The Economist, its editorial content and its core values. They will be highly skilled in the full production lifecycle from origination of ideas through to post production, taking responsibility and pride for the complete delivery of your content.
You will have a track record in delivering programmes to agreed budgets and schedules.

How you will contribute:
Generate original and compelling ideas and concepts for Daily Watch
Delegate effectively to a team of Researchers/Assistant Producers
Work closely/maintain strong relationships with Economist Editorial Journalists
Provide support to the Executive Producer/Series Producer by undertaking/coordinating research into any subject or issue relevant to the editorial ambitions of Daily Watch.
Identify talent as potential programme contributors or presenters.
Evaluate information and material and present it to the senior editorial staff in an appropriate form as required
Assemble and process programme material including briefs, scripting and camerawork or offline video editing
