BBC Children's has recently been tasked with developing ideas for the 12-16 market, an emerging area that will see future commissions on digital platforms.We are looking for ambitious, talented and creative individuals who can further expand our vision by contributing a distinctive, fresh approach to ideas generation and the renewal of our existing brands. You'll also have opportunities to build relationships working alongside our content generating partners across the BBC. As part of the in-house team, you will be mainly working on ideas for factual and entertainment shows from initial idea, through pitch and eventual commission. There may also be interaction and collaboration with the scripted and animation Development Producers.Main Responsibilities To work as an integral part of the Development team by generating exciting ideas that enhance our 'learning through play' philosophy To guide the Development team, leading by example, to deliver landmark content for new and existing factual and entertainment programmes that will inspire and entertain our audience To deliver ideas which reflect the commissioning priorities of the department Producing engaging, exciting and innovative programme proposals/ treatments, presentations/pitches, and tasters/pilots Setting up, participating in and facilitating creative brainstorms with both the Development team and with other colleagues in Children's and across BBC North Finding and developing new, diverse and relevant on-screen talent for BBC Children's Working closely with the interactive, short form and social teams to develop truly multiplatform ideas While you can expect to be in the office for the majority of your time, the role may involve travel to connect with local children or to attend filming locations, as required To be involved in all aspects of the development process from conception to delivery pitch documents and pilots or tasters Ensuring all priorities set by the Head of Development receive due coverage Actively participate in brainstorms and where required, use innovative ways to facilitate creative sessions to get the most out of attendees Knowledge of pre-school and 6-12 content and recent in-house and independent production commissions is crucial Interest in content for 12-16 market is also crucial Manage the workflow, day to day, of the development team ensuring junior members of the team are nurtured and developed Build and maintain relationships with key in-house production teams across Children's and the wider BBC to ensure effective collaboration Develop relationships with key suppliers, such as studio, crews and edit facilities Take responsibility for delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards The ability to recognise and suggest strong topics and offer creative and compelling ways of utilising and formatting them To encourage and facilitate creativity within the Development team and to bring to the team's attention to new and innovative ways of thinking and workingAre you the right candidate? A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the Children's audience and the ability to translate these into imaginative and compelling ideas, whilst considering the constraints governing suitability of content Ability to create formats and innovative factual and entertainment programme ideas from concept to delivery which are truly multiplatform Excellent scripting, structuring and story-telling skills and strong editorial judgement Demonstrable experience of writing compelling programme treatments A proven track record in generating and producing ideas for broadcast Ability to self-shoot, self-edit and produce presentations on PowerPoint or an equivalent is desirable but not essential Effective planning and organising skills is essential; specifically the ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising work flow and delivering consistently to deadlines Having resilience to knock backs and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities A good knowledge of the BBC's Editorial Policy and Health and Safety Guidelines Good understanding of television production techniques and procedures Ability to deal with complex and sometimes sensitive editorial issues Strong analytical thinking and the ability to assess complex information; the ability to quickly provide accurate and engaging summaries of research often created by others An acute awareness of the importance and potential of multi-platform production Knowledge and understanding of the children's audience and an awareness of Children's TV competitors Experience of managing and working effectively as part of a team Knowledge of BBC values
