Channel 5 daytime panel show Jeremy Vine is looking for a producer who is a self-starter bursting with ideas and ready to join this fast moving and exciting production. We want to be plugged into what people are talking about every day to make sure the programme is lively, relevant and having the right conversations. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of daytime debate shows, first class journalism and production skills, and the ability to work under pressure. They will be tasked with editing and publishing pictures and clips for broadcast, producing the news review and on-screen graphics, and putting callers to air. They will also be required on occasion to stand in for programme editors, where their tasks will include writing programmes and overseeing all elements of production for their show. ResponsibilitiesProduce the daily news review. This includes identifying stories for discussion, making graphics, briefing guests, commissioning pictures and ensuring the review is legally compliantUse AVID Newscutter to edit pictures and soundbites for the showProduce on-air graphics which are read about by the co-presenterOperate the phone box system which puts callers on airCome up with ideas for polarised debates and productionWrite great, punchy scripts and lead insWhen standing in for programme editors they will be tasked with:Overseeing all elements of the planning of the show in the two days prior, including pitching ideas, writing scripts, making editorial judgements and being across selection and edit of pictureManaging a team of assistant producers and researchers whose responsibilities include editing, briefs and story/guest researchMaking decisions on legal issues, taste and decency, in accordance with Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manualManaging the rundownIn the gallery:Working alongside the editor to output the programmeQualificationsA self-starterAn interest in keeping up to date with current news and trendsA strong understanding of daytime debate showsThe ability to work well under pressureExperience in editing and publishingA thorough knowledge of media law is essentialPrevious experience of outputting live TV is an advantageHighly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projectsExcellent communication skills (verbal/written/visual)Editorially creative and imaginativePrevious experience in daily/topical shows is essentialKnowledge and experience of topical issues and current affairsAbility to edit pictures using Avid Newscutter The highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial materialMust be highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projectsAdept at working independently - a self-starter, comfortable at being stretchedExperience of legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authorityEnthusiastic and passionateCalm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and roleAbility to work to tight deadlinesAbility to demonstrate our company values - Transparent, Innovative and Collaborative.This Job Description identifies the main requirements of the role.
