We are looking for a talented freelance Producer/Director to join the Subscriber Events department. You will be part of a team creating live online discussion panels featuring senior journalists from The Economist and high profile talent, aimed at the paper's 1.1 million subscribers. These webinars, in a short period of time, have become a pillar of how The Economist delivers its journalism to our audience.

The ideal candidate will have worked as a journalist, with experience in scriptwriting, remote interviews and live event production. They will work closely with senior editors and journalists to produce compelling and insightful live digital events, so an interest in news and current events is essential. They will need to be able to synthesise research into pithy scripts, explain complex ideas clearly, and stay calm in a live production environment.

The ideal candidate will understand The Economist, its editorial content and its core values. They will have a strong production-focused skillset, whether from film, TV, online, audio production or other relevant experience. They will be open to trying new tools and techniques to help the existing team expand its output while maintaining the quality that our audience has come to expect.

Main Responsibilities
* To produce creative and engaging live video that embodies the standards and characteristics of The Economist's long-form journalism in a manner suited to the medium.
* To research topics and turn them into scripts for live events
* To help shape the year-round programme and contribute ideas for events in co-ordination with the In-Life Engagement team and the Deputy executive editor
* Briefing contributors and hosts
* Pre-production and planning of events, including running orders, picture research and graphics
* Gallery producing/directing events, in conjunction with the live production team
* Overseeing editing of post-event recording
* Preparation and distribution of additional video and audio assets from each event when needed for other parts of The Economist
* Helping to further develop the vision for the future of subscriber events at The Economist.

Required Experience
* At least one years' experience of working as a producer/director for broadcast, online video production or similar role
* Able to prioritise tasks under time pressure
* Experience of edit producing or editing
* Knowledge of/understanding of working with any of the following software: Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, VMix

* Journalism: Is trained in and has experience as a video journalist and/or documentarian.

* Analytical thinking: Has the ability to take a highly analytical approach and has a good understanding of the importance of data in journalism.
* Influencing, persuading and negotiating: Highly developed influencing, persuading and negotiating skills. Is a strong and effective communicator. Is Able to take the lead to run the event and also work collaboratively as part of a team
* Decision-making: Proactive, makes quick, well-judged and informed decisions and takes responsibility for the consequences of those decisions.
* Planning and organising: Is able to think ahead in order to establish an effective and appropriate course of action for self and others. Has a meticulous attention to detail in research, planning and execution
* Flexibility: Adapts and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups.
* Resilience, drive and energy: Demonstrates and promotes enthusiasm, commitment and capacity for sustained effort and hard work over long periods. Is calm under pressure
* Technically minded: Has a good understanding and interest in new technologies. Are able to problem solve when technical issues arise.
