This is a key role in a newsroom where excellent production skills are recognised and encouraged. The successful candidate will be a strong journalist who can spot a story and tell it in an innovative way. The role includes all aspects of programme production including package producing, editing, templated graphics, and script writing. Output producers also take responsibility for shorter bulletins throughout the day, evenings and weekends and being present in the gallery for transmission. They must understand the importance of social media, work with our correspondents in promoting our content online and source stories and content for our digital platforms.
Responsibilities

Producing high quality packages and lives
Writing scripts, lead-ins, headlines and subbing
Editing video for ulays, headlines and packages
Selecting video and sound-bites for headlines, news-belts and packages
Conceiving, writing, and executing graphics in packages and lives
Using social media to publish 5 News content
Working with our reporters/correspondents to create content for online
Contributing story ideas and treatments for television and digital content
Being alert to news wires and breaking stories
Sourcing and logging of pictures and stills when used in their script
Identifying and creating opportunities for digital content and work with the news desk and digital editor to deliver them
Writing and editing pictures for shorter bulletins and updates throughout the day and at weekends
Being present in the gallery for TX to time the programmes and monitor breaking stories
Acting up to role of Assistant Programme Editor and Programme Editor on occasion
For the right candidate there is an opportunity for digital reporting
Qualifications

Knowledge and experience of news and current affairs
Attention to detail, scrupulous checking of facts
Ambitious journalist who can spot a story and tell it in a clear and innovative way
Experience of Avid (or equivalent editing software) beneficial but not essential
High quality news judgement, with initiative
Visual flair for spotting strong pictures and producing graphics
Excellent writing ability
Technical adaptability and flexibility
Good interpersonal skills; a team player with personal authority and the ability to manage a group of people
Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
An understanding of the difference between TV and digital content and output
Ability to work to a deadline
Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings presenting ideas in a persuasive manner
Excellent knowledge of the ITN Compliance Manual and of Ofcom regulations
