Motion Graphics and Animation Editor

London

Here at The Guardian, we believe the open exchange of information, ideas and opinions has the power to change the world for the better.

More people than ever before are reading, watching and listening to Guardian journalism from across the world. Over the past year The Guardian achieved record digital traffic with our highest number of regular readers and monthly page views averaging over 1.1 billion.

In 2019 we hit our highest revenues in a decade and achieved the goal we set three years earlier to break even. We're now on a path to achieve the goal we announced last month of two million people supporting The Guardian by 2022. That's where you come in.

We are recruiting a Motion Graphics & Animation Editor to lead and shape the design of motion graphics and animation for the Guardian's multimedia department, and to craft beautiful motion graphics/animations which explain complex stories and ideas and engage our audience.

About the Role

To lead and shape the design of motion graphics and animation for the Guardian's video department.
Working with members of the Guardian's video team, to create bespoke audience-focused motion graphics and explanatory animations to a consistently high standard for one-off video productions across all areas of our digital journalism - including news videos, documentaries, interactives and social media.
To design graphics templates for internal and external video producers to use in their productions, and manage and maintain our pack of existing branding graphics and template assets.
About you

Substantial professional experience of creating high quality motion graphics and animation, translating ideas into engaging, dynamic, visual storytelling with excellent use of typography, colour, composition and brand.
Demonstrable interest in visualising data and explanatory design, and understanding of how to use animation/motion to simplify complex topics.
Experience of leading the development of new explainer video formats, styles and guidelines; and other video formats, styles and guidelines, such as news video and documentaries.
Experience of managing other designers.
