Working across 5 News, the Media Manager is responsible for all technical operations within the newsroom. Managing the edit systems and the work flow for all media entering and leaving 5 News. Ensures the smooth technical running of the day to day operations in 5 News. This role primarily focuses on the weekday output of 5 News, with only occasional need for evening or weekend working. ResponsibilitiesDaily responsibilitiesProviding day to day media management for 5 News including: Ingest and export of all media for the newsroom; ingesting rushes, downloading agency clips, VTs from field, clips from various external sources, stills and sending media out for field editing or promos, contributors etc, and sending to playback for the programme.VT editing.Media management of video server.Quality control and oversight and online of all programme VTs and picture for the TV show.Liaising with the Director during the programme, keeping abreast of changes and providing support to the gallery using live roll from Avid.Keeping across each day's newsgathering/programme needs, identifying where extra staff support may be needed and spotting potential pinch points.Liaising with other media manager areas at ITN and MCR.Liaising with ITN technical support as required.Overseeing all edits in the newsroom including floor walking and supporting journalists at their desktops and prioritising send to playback for TXUploading FTP files as required.The Media Manager will oversee the collation of all video content and its assignment to various packages and underlays.Daily archiving of programme media.Ongoing tasksAdvising a newsroom personnel of varying abilities with use of editing software and PC software.Maintaining a strong relationship with the ITN technical support teams; broadcast support, server managers, and computer support.Advising / troubleshooting with cameramen in the field.Advising upon new workflows and software for the newsroom across graphics, web output, and editing.Sharing media with other parts of ITN and maintaining a good relationship with counterparts in all other areas of the business.Training new personnel on all newsroom workflow.Troubleshooting avid issues across the newsroom and the general maintenance of over twenty edit suites and all their accoutrements.QualificationsFamiliar with Avid Access, Media composer and Newscutter.Relevant experience in the broadcast or facility house industry or preferably live news.Multimedia and File based video production experience including file transfer and handling material from miscellaneous sources.PC & Mac literate with working knowledge of MS Office.Strong editing experience with the confidence and speed to cope with the immovable deadline of live news.Calm under pressure, a temperament appropriate to the stress of live news.Ability to make judgement calls in the newsroom when on air to advise director and programme editor in the gallery.Self-starter who is able to work well without oversight.Organised with excellent attention to detail.Team player.Flexible and adaptable approach.
