Media Manager Internship
London
The Programme
An opportunity for a placement on The Rank Foundation's intern programme "Time to Shine" which was created in order to enable people with skills, talents and ambition to gain paid work experience full time for up to 12 months.
The Placement Company
We are a multi award-winning media company producing television, radio and new media content on social issues, current affairs, religion, ethics, history and education. We broadcast across all networks, both in the UK and internationally, with the aim to get people thinking and talking. Above all we are passionate believers in the power and importance of media to educate, challenge and inspire.
The Role
After many years of TV and Radio production we have a rich back catalogue of programmes. However, storage of the tapes that the raw data or finished programme is stored on has not always been done effectively. We have moved most of our tapes to a storage facility but have only recently had the company housing them document what they have. We also have a lot of tapes at our offices in London and their data has not been entered into any system.
From time to time we get requests to use some of our archive, either the whole programme or a few seconds of footage. Without knowing where the footage is or whether we have the rights to allow this programme/footage to be re-used is a restriction on what we can do with it. We also need to know that we remain compliant as most agreements have a time restriction.
We Require
• Someone to design/find a tape location spreadsheet/database/other solution that will enable us to capture the data we need and then to input the data we have to date.
• Find tapes etc. that are located at our London offices (and anywhere else) and record their data.
• Devise a plan that allows for storage of tapes etc., appropriately and cost effectively. Consideration will need to be made of what needs to be kept locally and what can be archived. Whether multiple copies in multiple locations is appropriate?
• To record licensing rights and agreements attached to the programme
• Include data regarding any distribution agreements.
• Devise a procedure that allows for this data to be collected in the future and made available for input.
• Convert our paper archive to digital records.
We need someone who is knowledgeable of potential solutions and comfortable getting their hands dirty searching through boxes of paperwork to find the data required. Knowledge of what data needs to be captured isn't essential as this can be discussed on appointment.
