Junior Compliance Editor

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks operates branded entertainment channels around the world. The channels offer high quality film and television content from Sony Pictures and third party distributors, as well as original content commissioned globally and locally.

SPT Networks, currently has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Compliance Editor to join their team on a 12 month fixed term basis.

The SPT Compliance and Edit team works closely with colleagues in the Traffic team to view, edit and cut material according to the editorial and regulatory requirements of each destination channel. This work supports SPT's UK, Italian and German channels, which cover General Entertainment, Kids, Movies and Music genres.

There is close liaison with all Territory Directors, channel management, acquisition, planning and on-air teams across the business. This role also works closely with the Technical Operations and IT groups on the business systems and infrastructure that underpin the department.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compliance & Edit, the role will involve, but will not be limited to:

• Viewing of material to identify segments that may breach local broadcast regulations in our destination markets.
• Carry out video and audio edits to remove non-compliant segments and create new master copies suitable for broadcast.
• Work with Channel teams to ensure the finished edits fulfil the editorial policies of the channels
• Identification of technical QC failures, and where appropriate, repair of these segments.
• Mark key points in the edited versions, to identify technical moments in the programme, for example: commercial breaks, end of opening credits, start of closing credits
• Enter compliance and transmission information into Sony Pictures' MediaCentre application, or equivalent reporting documents

Technical QC would involve knowledge of all common video/audio discrepancies such as:

• File format (GOP structure, bit-rate, wrapper, codec, chroma subsampling)
• Macro blocking
• Artefacts induced during transfer from VT, frame rate conversion, size or bit-rate conversion
• Field dominance issues
• Chroma/luminance levels
• Aspect ratio discrepancies
• Flashing/strobing
• Frame slicing
• Audio levels to EBUR128 recommendation.
• Wide dynamic range
• Audio distortion, clipping, phasing and dc offset etc


Qualifications and/or Experience Required


• Strong experience of Adobe Premiere editing.
• Strong understanding of Adobe Audition or other audio editing software
• Excellent communication skills.
• A solid understanding of broadcast video technology, video formats (ideally within a tapeless post production workflow) and the post production broadcast chain.
• Experience of working in a high-volume environment and working to broadcast deadlines.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to keep a cool head under pressure and work independently.
• Demonstrable previous experience in a compliance-viewing role.
• Abreast of changes in editorial, technical & legal affairs associated with broadcast standards.
• Typically minimum of 2 years' experience in a post production related environment
