International Format Producer

BBC Studios International Production & Formats (IP&F) division produces and distributes formatted content around the world so that viewers everywhere can enjoy local versions of global hits like Weakest Link and Strictly Come Dancing, as well as creates original programming in its international production bases. Our teams are based in 12 global markets, with production bases and partnerships in nine countries; BBC Studios IP&F takes the best of British content from both the UK BBC Studios production arm, as well as several independent UK production companies to produce and distribute it to the world.

Our Factual and Entertainment successes include Dancing with the Stars (known in the UK as Strictly Come Dancing which is licensed to 60 territories), Love Productions' Great Bake Off (licensed to over 30 territories), and Weakest Link (licensed in more than 45 territories, most recently returning to screens on NBC in the USA hosted by Jane Lynch). We are also one of the top growing scripted format production and distribution teams, with localised versions of hit shows like Doctor Foster, The Office, Luther, and Criminal Justice now remade across France, Korea, the USA, Russia, and India.

Purpose of the role
To lead in the production consultancy relationship with overseas producers and broadcasters to ensure best possible versions of BBCW owned and licensed formats are realised using knowledge and know-how. The successful candidate will work with clients to "localise" and further develop formats for a particular territory.

To acquire the information required to deliver production consultancy on a particular title the successful candidate will establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of producers.

Main Responsibilities
Accountabilities
* Lead in the production relationship/ production management with overseas producers and broadcasters to ensure best possible versions of BBCS owned and licensed formats are realised using knowledge and know-how on identified titles
* Be first point of contact on all production issues for nominated format titles and to refer up on matters of potential controversy and for editorial advice (the post holder will be consulted by technical crew, commercial teams, local producers, senior producers, assistant producers and researchers for their editorial advice).
* Manage the production and compilation of bibles and ensure the prompt delivery other production supporting materials on identified titles.
* Working with the appropriate departments within BBCS ensures all terms and conditions for format deals meet BBCS editorial, commercial, scheduling and fair-trading guidelines and polices
* In close collaboration with the Creative Director of IP&F adapt and further develop formats, and content to encourage new and existing international audiences to engage with our content.
* Work with the Head of International Production Consultancy and the BBCS legal teams on issues of brand protection and compliance. Ensuring effective and relevant Health and Safety processes are in place. Be responsible for the editorial integrity and quality of content on multiple platforms.
* Work with the Head of Creative Network on various industry events including creative exchanges and sales markets.
* Be a key contact for local on and off-air talent, including the developing and nurturing of talent. Develop relevant contacts with outside bodies and organisations.
* Analyse production issues; negotiate and implement resolutions including organising, prioritising and scheduling work assignments.
* Be responsible for the sign off of all content associated before final delivery.
* Look for and suggest improvements in the making and delivery of content and to be open to feedback and use it to inform future systems and ways of working.
* Feedback market intelligence gained during consultancy trips.
* Ensure consistency with deliverables and maintain accurate databases of key information.

Professional Experience
* Strong track record in entertainment and factual entertainment production and an attention to detail on all aspects of production.
* Proven leadership skills with teams and collaboration with internal and external partners.
* Ability to multi-task across multiple projects simultaneously, working at pace.
* Sound editorial judgement and an in-depth understanding of BBC editorial policy.
* Commercial business experience preferable combined with a track record of effective international client handling and exposure to the international production marketplace.
* Strong journalistic/storytelling skills.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with a variety of people and teams.
* Experience of managing budgets, staffing and resources effectively and helping to deliver new ways of working.
* Effective people and performance management skills including the ability to give constructive feedback, deal with sensitive issues and to make difficult decisions.
* Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new production technologies and adapt to new ways of working. Specialist technical knowledge of cameras, post-production and new shooting technologies
