Box Plus is the UK's biggest music video network. We run a portfolio of music TV channels; The Box, Box Upfront, Box Hits, 4Music, Kiss, Kerrang! and Magic, alongside a suite of digital products; Boxplus and www.beboxmusic.com. We have a limited but growing International distribution network and have an in-house production team that directly creates content for our channels and network of digital platforms (incl. social media and syndicated).

JOB SUMMARY

To edit programming, promotional and commercial content for all Box Plus Television channels and digital. Following editorial and branding guidelines to create content which adheres to channel strategy. Housekeeping and media management of Box Avid projects and ISIS storage. Line management of Junior Editors.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND KEY DELIVERABLES

• Editing of programming for all Box channels
• Line Management of Edit team
• Editing of promotional, commercial and interstitial content for all Box channels
• Familiarity with and ability to follow branding and editorial guidelines
• Creating imaginative and innovative programming to a high technical standard
• Continue to monitor and assess workflows and techniques constantly striving for innovation and efficiency
• Technical fixing of programming and music videos, e.g. compliance issues or PSE failures
• Effective management of project media
• Housekeeping of ISIS and media management
• Awareness of and familiarity with the latest editing and graphical techniques
• Awareness of and familiarity with new features of updated software and the ability to integrate this to produce innovative programming and improved edit efficiency
• Providing feedback for in-house shoot team on camera set-up and being involved in creative process pre-production
• Acceptance testing for new software releases
• Constantly implement edit innovation and creative diversity

JOB FACTORS

Autonomy/ Judgement/ Decision Making

• Will be required to work alone for periods of time and make informed creative and technical decisions
• Work will always be signed off by producer, senior producer or editorial staff
• Work may be similar and repetitive e.g. for ongoing series
• Priorities are established by edit schedule although these may be subject to late change

Managing resources

• Manages effective use of allocated edit time
• Manages Avid work spaces, drives and projects
• May manage other aspects of Avid storage or associated programs
• Managing and developing of Junior editors, ensuring their development meets the demands of the company

Relationship Management (Internal and External)

• Should maintain excellent working relationships with all production and editorial staff
• Should maintain positive and mutually co-operative working relationships with edit assistants, bookings team and other editors
• Should maintain good working relationships with Red Bee post production engineering team

Problem Solving/ Complexity

• Most problems will be centered around late changes or sign-off (e.g. time constrictions)
• Occasionally problems will stem from missing, insufficient or substandard footage
• Such problems are defined but require ad hoc creative solutions
• Technical problems will be escalated to Engineering or Avid support teams

Business Impact/ Strategic Perspective

• The role has a high impact on viewership
• Programmes must meet editorial and branding guidelines so as to be in keeping with channel strategy
• Programmes must be of the highest creative and technical standards
• Programmes and commercials must meet Ofcom regulations and guidelines
• Objectives are immediate - deadlines must be met as missed slots could decrease audience share

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 3 years' experience of editing for broadcast
• An understanding of ISIS and Interplay and media management
• Knowledge of Avid Media Composer
• Knowledge and experience of colour grading preferably using Baselight
• Knowledge of Adobe CC particularly After Effects and Premier
• Knowledge and experience of green screen keying
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work calmly to tight deadlines close to transmission
• Ability to work autonomously using own initiative, on occasion required to take on edit-producing role making creative decisions on style and content
• Ability to provide training, support and effectively manage a team
• Experience of working in live environment and vision mixing
