Editor

Bath

Future's Games and Ents group creates international, market-leading content, delivered through award-winning print brands, the fastest-growing games website, GamesRadar, and the UK's leading awards event.

The group's magazine brands include the Official PlayStation Magazine, Edge, Retro Gamer, Total Film and SFX. The group also includes the 'Oscars of Videogames': The Golden Joystick Awards.

Job Purpose

As Editor, you will be responsible for leading Edge into a new era, exploring opportunities and building a strategy not only within the traditional magazine format but also digitally. You will play the lead role in ensuring that the print publication maintains its position, while implementing new digital activities and working with Future's games websites, to grow Edge's global readership.

From news and previews to in-depth features, reviews and interviews, you will plan, commission, write and deliver exceptional content in line with Edge's values. You'll have a passion for videogames past, present and future, and an in-depth knowledge of the industry and the way games are created and published. Strong communication skills are essential, as well as an extensive contacts book and a network of freelancers to call upon.

You will be able to write entertaining and informative copy, bringing to life stories around the biggest new releases, as well as presenting critical appraisals to ensure that we continue to give Edge readers independent and accurate buying advice.

You'll have an instinct for what Edge readers want, and be willing to engage with data and other stakeholders in Future to shape your workflow and drive the brand to further success beyond just the printed magazine. You will have a strong drive to deliver exclusive content first, and will be keen to build Edge's presence through digital channels.

Leading a small core in-house team, you will be required to perform various content tasks including writing original copy and commissioning and managing freelancers around tight deadlines. Your work may also include occasional marketing and social media activity.

You will be hugely excited about the opportunity to continue the success of Edge globally, and where relevant will work closely with related internal teams, including those in digital editorial, commercial, marketing and events, to help drive this further. With a keen eye for commercial opportunity, you'll also be responsible for working with the group's commercial leadership teams to identify new business opportunities for the brand.

Traditionally this position is based in Bath, UK, but we are also open to discussing it in the context of remote working. The role requires commitment, attention to detail, and proven organisational skills. Crucially, from the outset you will need to demonstrate a clear vision and desire for driving Edge to the next stage in its evolution.

Closing date - Monday 30th November
