Documentary Filmmaker (Thai-speaking)
London & Thailand
We are looking for fluent Thai-speaking documentary-makers or video ethnographers (self-shooter/editor). This is for an exciting research project which will take place between July and September (exact dates TBC). It will involve conducting approx. four 5-6-hour filmed ethnographic observations/interviews with participants, exploring their everyday lives and attitudes to finance.
It is desirable but not essential that you are knowledgeable about video ethnography; however, it is vital that you have a genuine interest in people and culture, and an observational style of film-making. The aim of the project is to get deep into people's lives and learn about their motivations and behaviour. We are looking for people who are excited by interactions with others and keen to communicate their understanding about life in Thailand to us.
You will attend briefing meetings in London, fly to Bangkok to conduct the fieldwork, then return to London to take part in analysis and complete your editing. We will organise travel and find film subjects for you. Fieldwork will take approx. one week and, overall, the project will involve approximately three weeks' work.
It is essential that you are fluent in Thai, as we will need you to conduct the filmed ethnographic interviews, then edit the footage in that language. You must also be fluent in English, and you must be a competent editor.
This is a very basic outline of what we do, and the dates and duration are to be confirmed. Please get in touch if you fit the requirements and we will provide more details.
We may also consider applications from candidates with the appropriate language skills whose expertise is editing but not shooting.
