Director of Production

London

BBC Studios is a powerhouse of bold British television, leading the way in creative storytelling. We already produce 2500+ hours of content every year and we are growing.

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the fantastic creative teams as we look to hire an outstanding Director of Production for the Drama Department. We believe this is one of the very best senior production roles across the UK Drama space and offers a huge breadth of variety for someone with a wealth of production experience, who can help us deliver an ambitious range of dramas.

The Drama Department is a leading production company with passionate programme makers at its centre.

We bring over fifty years' experience finding powerful stories, building brands and creating television franchises audiences around the world love. We work with the best international talent to create, develop and produce popular, innovative, award-winning television drama.

Our expertise and ambition have launched critically acclaimed powerhouse brands like Doctor Who and Luther as well as iconic dramas from the ground-breaking Criminal Justice (adapted for HBO as The Night Of) and Three Girls, to more recent successes We Hunt Together (for UKTV & Showtime) and provocative single drama The Left Behind.

BBC Studios' history, scale and world-class distribution arm means it is uniquely positioned to be the most ambitious and diverse drama producer in the UK.

Our mission is to create magnetic shows that cut through to all audiences and work on the global stage, to find voices unheard and stories untold; to bring distinctive drama to the forefront of the global cultural conversation. We work in partnership with some of the world's most creative minds - whether new or established writers, directors, on-screen talent - to deliver bold British drama at its very best.

Role Responsibility

Supporting the Head of Drama, the Director of Production will run the production department, making sure programmes are delivered on time and on budget. With the Director of Current, they will work on shows in the later stages of development, and throughout the production process to maximise quality, both in creative and operational terms, and ensure the BBC maintains the highest international standards of practice.

As a senior leader, they will assist the Head of Drama in aspects of corporate governance and policy where required, navigating the BBC's decision making structure to create maximum effectiveness in delivering the programme-making ambitions of the department.

This is a hands-on job that combines management with programme-making and exceptional communication skills.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have an outstanding track record, and deep experience, of production management, matched with commercial acumen and the ability to marshal the production operations of a rapidly-expanding business. You will be able to robustly negotiate the structures of a large business in order to deliver rapid, practical outcomes for programme makers. You will have a proven record in successfully managing productions of differing scale, including international co-productions, and be able to combine excellent senior crew relationships with significant experience at senior executive level.

With experience gained both domestically and internationally, you will know what it is to lead and develop inclusive teams across a number of bases, coupled with extensive experience of the production process, P&L management and Production Health & Safety.
