BBC Studios' Unscripted Productions bases are in London, Bristol, Cardiff and Northern Ireland. It's home to many of the BBC's most popular brands such as Countryfile, Gardeners' World, Crimewatch Roadshow, Wanted Down Under, Flog It, Bargain Hunt and Fake or Fortune, as well as food series featuring much-loved presenters like The Hairy Bikers and Nigella.

The Development Producer reports to the Head of Development and will be part of the development team, working across all formats for a range of broadcasters.

The purpose of this role is to generate factual and formatted programme ideas, to develop those ideas to the point of being commissionable, and to produce high quality proposals, taster tapes and other materials to support those ideas. This will involve juggling a variety of projects at different stages of development.

Role Responsibility

Regularly generating with new ideas for development, with strong understanding of markets both in the UK and internationally, whilst adhering to Studios strategy, focusing on returnable formats. Proactively seeking new talent

· Keeping across new trends and talent within the industry ideally with experience of pitching to commissioners
· Developing good working relationships and knowledge of agents and their clients and pro-actively pursuing projects with them as appropriate
· Casting experts and contributors
· Producing taster tapes and writing pitching documents to a high standard, ideally using Powerpoint/Photoshop
· Creating filming schedules and budgets in close liaison with members of the Production Management team. (Less important than preparing for edits in available time) Communicating efficiently with the PM team to ensure all filming and post production logistics and requirements are managed efficiently
· Ensuring the Health and Safety of everyone involved in a shoot;
· Preparing efficiently for edits and editing creatively and efficiently in the available time and within the allotted budget.

The Ideal Candidate

A track record of developing television ideas that have been commissioned is essential
· We are looking for passionate, telly obsessives, bursting with ideas and can fuse genres, cherry picking populist issues that matter to the public and turn them into compelling watchable shows
· A demonstrable interest in all genres on television and an awareness of material currently in development and potential gaps
· Experience in writing high quality pitch documents and development reports
· Ability to self-shoot taster tapes is desirable
· Experience of editing self-shot / specially shot / archive material for taster tapes is highly desirable
· Track record in casting experts and contributors is highly desirable
· Experience of handling confidential and/or controversial information with tact and sensitivity
