Development Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Assistant to join the Drama department within STV Productions on a 12 month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Development Executive the successful candidate will work in close conjunction with the wider team to assist with all aspects of drama development in the department. Whilst this role will be based in London it will also involve travel to Glasgow subject to operational requirements.
JOB PURPOSE
• To support the Drama Team with all aspects of the development slate and all administrative duties.
• To assist with the maintenance of the department's project-related systems and processes.
• To support project management and research within the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Managing and maintaining the department logs and databases.
• Keeping a detailed knowledge of current status of the slate so as to be able to answer queries, assess needs and spot opportunities.
• Logging external submissions and ensuring they are read and responded to in a timely fashion and writing rejection letters when necessary.
• Assessing books, submissions and writer samples from agents and providing detailed script reports evaluating the material in the context of STV's development strategy.
• Contributing to the generation of new ideas.
• Conducting research for new and existing projects.
• Attending screenings, theatre and new writer showcases and using initiative in introducing new writing and directing talent to the department.
• Keeping the department updated on new developments and trends in TV drama and the general broadcast landscape.
• Providing PA support to the Head of Drama including diary management, tracking reading, sourcing material.
KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
• A passion for drama across all mediums particularly television.
• Demonstrable knowledge of scripted content both in the UK and internationally is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to build successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong editorial skills and the ability to identify and assess new material.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain administration systems.
• Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in all MS Office applications.
• Strong self starter, results and solutions driven approach required.
• Knowledge and experience of using social media in a professional context
• Knowledge of key agents and new talent within the industry is desirable as is experience of professional script reading.
