Summary:

The Deputy News Editor is responsible for assisting the News Editors in the smooth running of the News-desk as directed.

Channel: Al Jazeera English

Key Responsibilities and Accountability:

Assisting in the running of news desk operations, taking responsibility for multiple stories and news-gathering teams as directed by the News Editor.
Assigning and liaising with teams in the field and taking responsibility for helping ensuring the editorial vision is met.
Liaising with field teams and communicating effectively with the Output and satellite operation teams to ensure the time sensitive delivery of story packages and reporter LIVES.
Reacting to breaking news by confirming facts and assisting with deployment of teams in consultation with the Executive Producer and News Editors.
Sourcing latest picture for producers and field teams and with consideration of veracity and ability to use.
The ability to oversee the editing of packages, so they are good to go to air.
Liaising with the Al Jazeera English broadcast centres and sister channels to ensure consistent coverage across the network
Line producing multiple reporter LIVES, during news shows.
Strong time management skills, to be able to deal with multiple and often competing demands. Ability to stay cool and calm under pressure.
Flexibility and initiative to step into News Editor role when required.
Assisting the News Editor in keeping the daily global news prospects organised, accurate and up-to-date.
Contributing to the regular news meeting with story ideas and coverage suggestions.
Working with Interview Producers to help organize guests as required.
Working on both the news and planning desks as required
Working in the field as assigned

Job Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Bachelor Degree in Journalism or related fields, such as politics, international affairs
Experience working in a busy international newsroom
