Deputy Head of Development
London
We are looking for a creative, driven and passionate DEPUTY HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT to work across its expanding slate of new projects.
The company is now working across a wider range of genres than ever - from constructed factual formats and access series to premium doc box-sets and feature docs - and is in production for streamers and terrestrial broadcasters on both sides of the Atlantic.
We're looking to bolster the development team at a senior level to build on that success and help create the next generation of Garden shows.
Responsibilities will include:
• Working in close collaboration with the Head of Development to run a busy and expanding development team across two sites - London and Leeds.
• Generating slates of ideas for a wide-range of broadcasters - from the terrestrials to SVOD/AVOD and Intl. platforms.
• Designing and running brainstorms and creative sessions to ensure a constant pipeline of new ideas.
• Creating and delivering high-quality development materials including written treatments, sizzle reels and pitch decks. Edit (Adobe Premiere Pro) and graphic design skills (Photoshop) are desirable but not essential.
• Ensuring that ideas are fully stress-tested and ready to transition to production. For example, working through formats in detail, bottoming out complex logistics or standing up difficult access. This will include working closely with The Garden's team of Executive Producers.
• Brokering relationships with external partners including large institutions, other media companies and on- and off-screen talent.
• Supporting junior members of the team to deliver quality research and ideas - as well as aiding in their development and growth.
The ideal candidate will:
• Have experience of Development at a senior level - for example Development Executive or Senior Development Producer - with a proven track-record of generating, developing and converting ideas into commissioned shows for both terrestrial broadcasters and SVODs. While we would like the Deputy Head of Development to work across all The Garden's Development output, we welcome applications from candidates with a more focussed specialism in either constructed factual formats or premium documentaries.
• Be able to create clear and compelling written materials in support of new ideas.
• Understand how to manage a large, varied and fast-moving Development slate and the associated admin that entails - including tracking the progress of ideas and ensuring projects retain momentum - both within company and once they are with broadcasters.
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the fast-moving broadcast landscape - including identifying new opportunities/relationships for The Garden.
• Be a team player who is willing to get stuck in at every level of the Development process.
• Be an active member of the television community who is willing to give back to the industry through mentoring etc.
We value the diversity of our teams and as an inclusive employer want our workforce to reflect our wider society. We encourage applications from people from under-represented backgrounds.
Please send CVs and your availability.
