We are looking for a highly experienced programme maker and manager to become Deputy Editor of Jeremy Vine, the two-hour flagship daytime topical discussion programme on Channel 5. The successful candidate must have a combination of strong journalistic skills and experience of daytime television, along with a real flair for making engaging and entertaining shows. First-class production and gallery output skills are vital. We want to be plugged into what people are talking about every day to make sure the programme is lively, relevant and having the right conversations. We are looking for this new team member to start as soon as possible and are actively seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds.We are offering a two-year fixed term contract to start in January 2020. The Deputy Editor will be responsible for supporting the Editor in implementing the long-term strategy and vision for the programme to make it the most talked about discussion programme in Britain. The role will involve being hands on in the planning and production of the show, coming up with ideas for talking points and guests, driving the production team and outputting in the gallery. It will also involve managing members of the team and deputising for the Editor when appropriate. The successful candidate will have considerable editorial and production experience, excellent organisation and communication skills, and be brimming with ideas.ResponsibilitiesAssist the Editor with the day-to-day editorial running of the show and implementing its long-term strategyIdentify talking points and guests for the programmeGenerate production ideas to create memorable studio momentsOutput the programme on a regular basisReact to the kind of stories that will work for the Jeremy Vine audience - whether it be dealing with the most important issues in Britain in a relevant way, or lighter topics to make us smileReact to breaking newsContribute to the leadership of planning meetingsThink clearly and decisively, particularly when faced with unexpected problems, and make rational decisionsInput editorially into digital output and help increase the presence of the show onlineSupport the Editor in managing a bright, hungry team tasked with picking the very best guests and discussion topicsSet the highest standards for all content and ensure it is accurate and compliant with the law and relevant regulationsDeputise for the Editor when requiredWork in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety This Job Description identifies the main requirements of the role.
