Data Operator

London

This vacancy is for a Freelance Data Operations role based at our European Headquarters in Shoreditch, London. Data Operations provide support regarding the management, transfer, and safe-guarding of all received and created media assets, from the initial digital ingest to the archiving/storage of finalised projects; it is the very foundation of the production process.

Role:

This office-based role is suitable for someone with previous Post Production experience in a similar role, supporting Assistant Editors, Offline Editors, Online Editors and Audio Mixers. This role demands a logistical mind-set paired with an ability to juggle multiple requests at once. You will be working as part of a small team so communication will be vital. The services your team provides will enable the wider Post Production team to focus on their duties seamlessly and help productions go to TX without issue.

Working hours are predominantly 10am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. However, fixed day allocation will be in effect on 2 of these 5 working days (a 2-day week). The requirements of shift patterns will be applied based on the needs of the production schedule - e.g., weekend/evening shifts may be required due to production deadlines. This is an office-based role.

Responsibilities:

• The receipt and digital ingest of all shoot/rushes material supplied to the London VICE office, including the re-naming of this material to a specific VICE naming convention.
• The creation of Proxy material from obtained/ingested Rushes (where required).
• The initial Premiere Pro project preparation for Assistant Editors - e.g., Creation of Premiere Projects with RAW/Proxy material imported and attached, Trint transcription exports/uploads (where applicable).
• Liaising closely with the Assistant Editors/Editors/Coordinators to ensure all new and existing assets are located, shared and stored correctly at the start and end of each project.
• The housekeeping and maintenance of in-house servers and cloud-based platforms to ensure ease of access to, and migration and storage and archive of, all assets and projects.
• Supporting Assistant Editors with routine tasks such as asset location/transfer - e.g., Motion Graphic Templates, Credit Bed information, archive material and exported final assets.
• Dealing with various types of file acquisition requests from the global VICE Media Group and beyond - legacy files, etc. and liaising with the Rights & Clearance team to ensure the validity of ALL assets/content requested by the VMG or any such third-party groups.
• Assisting with in-house workflows and housekeeping "best practices" to all production team members.
• The booking in/out of HDDs/SSDs from the Data Operations department, along with the safe migration of all media assets within each drive once safely returned. This will also involve the wiping and rotation of these drives for new and extended projects.
• The mass-migration of assets from in-house servers, cloud-based services, and Linear Tape-Open platforms (LTO) and back again. Including, but not exclusive to, the management of all RAW media and finalised projects to AWS for posterity - i.e. Archiving/Unarchiving.

Qualifications:

We are looking for someone with an understanding of the brand, at least one years' experience in the broadcast industry and a willingness to learn the post production process from the ingest stage to transmission. You will need to display:

• A solid working knowledge of Premiere Pro CC and other such Adobe based software - Media Encoder, After Effects, Audition, etc.
Your own Adobe Creative Cloud account.
• Experience of dealing with servers.
• A solid working knowledge of production protocols such as folder structure, assets management - ingest/export/archive - and security of sensitive material.
• Fantastic communication skills.
• A calm positive attitude. Essential as maintaining good relationships with our clients and in-house staff is paramount.
Good understanding of the VICE Media Group output.

Additional and advantageous skills:

• Your own Adobe Creative Cloud account.

To apply please email a brief cover note and C.V. We look forward to hearing from you!

If you do not hear back from us within one month of applying then unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful. Thank you once again for applying and we wish you success in your future career.
