12 Yard Productions is one of the world's most successful entertainment format creators, producing hit shows including the BBC1 's, In It to Win It and Who Dares Wins; BBC2's Insert Name Here and Eggheads; ITV's Big Star's Little Star, and E4's reality series Coach Trip. The company was acquired by ITV in 2007. We are currently in production with pilots and series for BBC, ITV, E4 and various US networks.
We are looking for a trainee to be an integral part of our development team. Right from the start you will be originating your own original TV ideas. You will be writing and creating pitch documents and learning to use Photoshop, editing packages and PowerPoint to extremely high professional standard. You don't need to have any previous experience of working in television but you need to be a quick learner.
You will follow social and traditional media; keep up to date with who is who in popular culture, comedy and the media. You will watch trends in technology, TV and online and you will do much of this off your own back.
We are looking for a hard working, self starter and someone who can think originally, work within a team and keen to learn everything there is to know about TV development. It is essential that you love entertainment TV and are not a TV snob. The successful candidate will be creating quiz, reality and game shows, if you dream of writing scripted comedy or directing hard hitting documentary series this job is probably not for you.
The contract will start in September 2018, the role is full time, based in London and will pay £400p/w (£20,800 per annum)
As part of our application, Please choose two out of the three briefs from below and write an idea for each.
Each idea should be no longer than 500 words and include the following:
Title of the proposed programme
A short one or two line summary that sells your idea
What channel and or time slot it is for
Explanation of how the idea works
1. An original Factual Entertainment show aimed at all the family for 7pm or 8pm (Factual Entertainment includes programmes like The Great British Bake Off, DIY SOS, The Apprentice and The Secret Lives of Four Year Olds)
2. An idea for a regular returning three minute segment for Saturday Night Takeaway. It could be a new idea using a celebrity guest in a fun way, a surprise hit idea or a game for the studio audience to play.
3. An idea that has the title 'BREAKING POINT'
Try to think laterally, this could be any genre - reality, studio or game, competition.
