We have a new industry Chair and our Board and Advisory Councils comprise committed senior industry leaders from across the screen industries - film, television, visual effects, animation and games - representing large and small organisations across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to help address key skills gaps and shortages in the screen workforce, through the development of practical and strategic training solutions.

Role Purpose:

The CPD Manager is an important front-facing role, operating as part of Creative Skillset's Film Team to work with industry and specialist training providers across the UK to ensure that all professional level training activities we commission meet with industry needs.

This is a pivotal role in the implementation of the BFI Future Film Skills Strategy, particularly in addressing urgent skills gaps in the film workforce across the value chain - including production, post production, exhibition, distribution and sales.

This person will have experience of physical film production (for example in a production office, craft or technical role). An understanding of the whole film value chain and crossover points with other screen sectors is required, with an effective network of established industry professionals. A good knowledge of the training provider market as well as professional bodies for the film and screen industries (e.g. guilds, unions, trade bodies) is essential.


Key responsibilities

• Meeting with key industry partners and practitioners to work through the best solutions to prioritise skills shortages and training needs
• Working with the Head of Film and Film Production Liaison Manager to build and maintain a clear map of industry training shortages based on industry requirements
• Working with colleagues in the High-End TV Team to identify crossover areas and develop smart responses
• Briefing training providers and commissioning relevant courses for delivery
• Reviewing associated costs and charges of training roll-out and ensuring best value
• Gathering, disseminating and reviewing industry feedback throughout the course commissioning and delivery process
• Overseeing and ensuring positive outcomes of all commissioned courses, including working with providers to ensure participant progress is tracked
• Working with colleagues in the Accreditation Team to incrementally align professional training solutions with an industry-recognised framework

Essential skills and experience

• A background of physical production and operating at a senior level
• Proven project management experience in a like/similar role
• Knowledge of the UK film industry and the sector's skills and business challenges
• Clear understanding of training needs within the film and ideally wider screen workforce
• In-depth knowledge of professional training providers and professional bodies within film and screen sectors
• Proven experience of building effective partnerships with high-level stakeholders and customers
• Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills
• A 'can do' and hands-on proactive approach, with the ability to think strategically
• Skillful management and prioritisation of a complex workload, matrix-working with colleagues in different teams across multiple projects
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly across the UK
