Brown Bag Films, Dublin Studio is currently looking for our next Character Department Technical Director!

About the role:

As a Character Department TD, you will develop and maintain tools that ensure the current and future capabilities of the designated department. Your day will include crafting bespoke rigs that add to the rig builder library, rigging, modeling tools to support the work of the character department, and producing documentation describing the functionality and workflow for tools.

Responsibilities will include:

- Developing tools for use by the riggers and character modelers that facilitate workflow
- Documenting the tool functions and workflows, as well as supporting the rollout and feedback cycles for in-house and overseas studios
- Creating new modules for the rig builder to support archetype and bespoke assets
- Collaborating with pipeline on character workflow and integration of tools
- Proactively problem solving; crafting the IT and pipeline tickets to address any technical problems in relation to the tools and workflows for the department
- Collaborating with production on project achievements that relate to the closing out of tools and dictate development cycles
- Ensuring that tools/workflows are user-friendly and efficient.

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

- Good knowledge of the pipeline of CG and a strong sense of anatomy as practical for rigging
- Thorough understanding of the requirements of motion control and deformation for animation
- Experience in the pipeline and in scripting (Python) for tool development, as well as groundbreaking problem-solving skills
- Shown experience of developing tools successfully used in production
- Highly proficient in Maya and its rigging toolset, including an excellent shown understanding of developing Maya tools
- Extensive & broad experience working as a character rigger, supporting tools to in-house and external teams, and experience with asset tracking systems is desirable
