Camera Operator

London

A fully multi-skilled camera operator capable of filming and editing reports on a wide range of news stories and features. A broadcast news professional with a proven track record of shooting high quality pictures.

Responsibilities
Film events, picture sequences and interviews in full liaison with other team members
A highly technical role requiring the ability to shoot and edit to high broadcast standards
Work alongside the 5 News correspondents as needed but on occasion can also work alone to shoot sequences or interviews
Creatively film and construct packages for TV and digital
Understand the 5 News agenda and how the camera role is crucial to delivering stories that connect with our audience
Operate a camera and associated equipment, including sound equipment
Use lighting equipment, reliably and creatively to a high technical standard
Undertake the direction of live outside broadcasts.
Maintain equipment including the ordering of spare partsto ensure kit stays in correct working order
Facilitate the speedy delivery of material for TX using internet, IP and satellite feeds
Responsible for adhering to ITN's health and safety regulations in the field
Liaise with the newsdesk on deployments and operational requirements
Work under own initiative to capture the best footage
Be prepared to work across the whole of the UK and abroad when required

Qualifications
A flexible approach with the ability to multi-task with good camera skills, competent editing skills
Sound news judgement is a distinct advantage
Sharp-eye for picture in TV and digital newsgathering and an imaginative approach to news coverage
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems on the ground
A self-motivated member of staff with confidence to operate unsupervised and using his/her initiative
Good knowledge of Ofcom and compliance regulations
Awareness and ability to work to health and safety requirements
An understanding of the importance of good care and regular maintenance of kit
Experience of working in television news
An aptitude for editing pictures
Experience in working with AVID desirable
Good understanding of systems for picture delivery
Knowledgeable about the development and use of relevant new technologies
Effective interpersonal skills, particularly a high level of tact and diplomacy
Ability to work and thrive under pressure
Commitment to integrated team working practices
Constructive, creative and enabling approach to problem solving
A valid driving licence
Basic computer and IT skills
Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision-making
