Emmerdale is recorded both in a studio environment and also out on location and we are often on the lookout for talented freelance Camera Assistants to supplement our Camera Department on a short-term freelance basis.
This role entails...
You will need a good understanding of how our Camera Operators work on both location and in a studio environment; learning how to rig/derig specialised equipment, to pressurised deadlines, in order to acquire quality pictures. You will need to know the importance of working both technically and creatively, working closely with a wide range of production personnel including cast; directors and other crew.
You will have the responsibilities associated for the management of equipment ensuring the prevention of damage and working closely with the Grips department. In the studio environment you will have to rig and derig cameras; patching cameras to relevant camera points and will be required to cable-clear and assist with focusing, tracking etc. On location you will be responsible for P2 card recording media, including collection and return to base, labelling, loading into the records etc. You will also be responsible for charging camera batteries and replacing them also reporting if faulty; setting up monitors for other production crew to view the pictures.
What do I need to get this role/job?
Minimum criteria
* Driving licence is required as driving duties are part of this role as you will be expected to load equipment and drive a vehicle from our studio base out to location.
* Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and confident in liaising with various individuals and departments in a professional manner.
* You will need to be flexible, reliable, punctual and organised. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to be flexible with regards to working hours - production days are long.
* You will be required to move, transport and rig/derig heavy equipment.
* You will need to have gained experience working as a Camera Assistant, preferably on a similar drama production.
* You will need experience of duties such as: rigging and derigging camera equipment; cable-clearing; charging camera batteries and setting up monitors out on location and assisting with focusing and tracking.
