Broadcast Engineer

London

An exciting opportunity has arrisen for a Broadcast Engineer to work in North West London.

Broadcasting from our headquarters in London, we have a broad range of programme content, varying from news to entertainment. Although broadcasting from London; we have a have bureaus in the Middle east and worldwide. The responsibility of the Broadcast Engineer is to work with hardware and broadcast systems, ensure that programmes are broadcast on time and to the highest level of quality, operate and maintain the systems and carry out updates and repairs of the associated system.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing continued support for various systems including Studios, Tapeless production System, Editing Suites, Playout Center, ENG equipment as well as IT and network infrastructure
• Work closely with Operations departments to identify their needs and ensure they are met
• Preparing RFP/RFQs for vendors
• Maintaining specialist equipment for video production, broadcast and satellite transmission and interactive media;
• Maintaining the systems documentation library.
• Installation and testing new facilities and equipment;
• Setting up and operating editing facilities in post-production suites;
• Analysing and repairing technical faults on equipment and systems;
• Setting up and operating equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts;
• Designing and installing custom audiovisual circuits;
• Developing and using awareness of best practice in health and safety for the workplace;
• Interpreting and implementing instructions and requests from producers, directors and other colleagues;
• Communicating effectively with members of the team and other colleagues;
• Keeping up to date with the industry and changes in technology by building and maintaining a network of contacts and investigating new systems and techniques.

Key Skills/ Personal Attributes and Knowledge Required
• Working knowledge on tapeless production & post production workflows including server based production and Playout systems (Video servers, Automation System, Non-Linear Editing Systems, MAM, Archiving, etc...)
• Working knowledge on the technical side of the Newsroom Systems.
• Solid understanding of networking technologies and their implementation in a broadcast environment.
• Must have a strong IT knowledge
• Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively
• Must have strong computer skills with ability to use Visio & Microsoft Office.
• Must have availability to work on-call as needed, including evenings, overnights and weekends.
• Effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills and the ability to function effectively with tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations

Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in engineering, broadcasting, or related field, IT certificates.
• At least 2 years of experience in the broadcast field
• Working knowledge of studio equipment (including and not limited to Cameras, Vision Mixers, Audio Mixers, etc.)
