Autocue Operator - Full time

Westminster

The Autocue operator will expected to liaise with the studio directors and producers and must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure.

They will be responsible for looking after scripts for pre-recorded programmes as well as working on live news bulletins working often under the pressure of a fast changing environment, the operator will be proactive in achieving objectives with limited time scales of live studio environment.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Excellent communication skills
• Fantastic English skills, written and reading abilities
• Can-do attitude, confident to read scripts aloud for the director as required
• In depth knowledge of news and world politics would be advantageous
• The ability to spot mistakes with grammar and spelling, out of date items and to flag these up for correction with the gallery producer (or director in rehearsal)
• The capacity to multi-task and take direction
• Tact and diplomacy
• The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Flexibility, creativity and patience
• Attention to detail
• Responding quickly to directions
• Happy to multi skill, learning other skills such as editing, i.e. be a very hands on type of person
• Good team player

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working closely with the director to plan, rehearse and broadcast programmes
• To communicate effectively with the directors, producer and gallery team
• Assembling, preparing, testing and setting up equipment prior to filming/recording
• Pre-reading scripts (sometimes aloud for the director) checking for any factual errors as well as typos etc.
• Ensuring that all studio directions are correctly placed and are correct
• working quickly, especially as timing is such an important factor
• taking sole responsibility for the autocue script in live and pre-recorded situations
• keeping up to date with TV methods and terminology and related equipment
• Reporting and repair and maintenance issues of the Autocue equipment
• Demonstrating a good awareness of health and safety issues
• Helping when required with the moving of studio furniture for different shows and programmes
• Looking after the presenters and (sometimes) guest requests, this could be making drinks and running errands in studio down time!
