Assistant Producer - London Vacancy

Al Jazeera English is looking for a smart, critically-minded and energetic Assistant Producer to join the team of the channel's weekly media analysis show, 'The Listening Post'.

The Assistant Producer will work intensively on the weekly production and will also avail of opportunities to work on other productions in the department. Tasks will include carrying out research (both editorial and archive), supporting logistical planning, producing filmed and stock/archive footage for segments and tracking developing media stories around the world. The AP will support producers on fast-turnaround analytical packages as well as write and edit smaller segments of the show.

The ideal candidate will have either had training in broadcast journalism or some experience in TV news production. In addition, he/she must be plugged into international current affairs with a genuine interest in the history and politics of the global south and importantly, the media itself. We are looking for someone who is a keen reader, who is ideally bi/multilingual, who enjoys deep research and is open to working hard on visual production. We want someone who can bring energy and enthusiasm to their work.

There will be ample opportunities to hone news judgement and writing and visual skills in this job. You need to contribute editorially, work well in a team and deal well with the pressure of deadlines.

As mentioned above, in this position you will also have opportunities to work for short periods of time on other programmes being produced in the department - for instance shows like Head to Head and UpFront.
