Assistant Head of Production

London

We are looking for an Assistant Head of Production. This person is likely to be a Senior Production Manager with a passion for popular factual and current affairs programme making. Reporting to the Head of Production, you will have a successful track record in production and people management across current affairs and popular factual programming with experience dealing with commissioners, finance and business affairs teams.

Responsibilities

This role will cover all our production output both on location and in studio (live and pre-recorded) as well as exciting new projects for both UK and international broadcasters. You will be required to production manage programmes from greenlight to delivery i.e budgeting, scheduling, cost control and day to day management. In assisting the Head of Production you will also support our other PMs on their productions and be responsible for implementing our company policies (including health and safety, child protection, data protection, bribery and corruption). You will also deputise for the Head of Production as necessary at both internal and external meetings.

You will be used to negotiating with commissioners on budgets and in preparation and completion of cost reports including variances and accruals. You will also have excellent knowledge of the post production process from commencement through to delivery and be familiar with the range of deliverables required by UK and international broadcasters and distributors.

The Assistant Head of Production will:
Fulfill the role of Production Manager on a range of productions
Support other Production Managers as per the allocation of programming responsibilities delegated by the Head of Production and oversee the scheduling, budgeting, negotiation, reporting, and production management of programmes
Review and approve production cost reports
Appoint Production Managers with appropriate expertise as required in conjunction with the HOP
Monitor the progress of productions and offer solutions to problems that may arise
Train and develop, in particular, Junior Production Managers and other production personnel as directed by the HOP
Oversee the implementation of the Company Health and Safety policy on all of their productions
Oversee the tracking and accounting of ALBERT, carbon monitoring, finding ways to make productions more sustainable
Consider, encourage and implement new working practices to ensure cost effective and efficient production
Oversee relevant negotiations and agree funding with broadcasters/PFMs/Agents in conjunction with the business and legal affairs departments
Deputise for the HOP during periods of annual or other leave and as requested by HOP

Qualifications
A proven track record in production management and people management
Experience in prioritising many and varied and often conflicting priorities
Experience of dealing with and working with US broadcasters particularly with budgeting and deliverables
Knowledge of the different approaches to how programmes can be made including low cost high volume programming and fast turnarounds
Thorough and proven knowledge of different genres, including: single camera, multi camera, live/as live studio and green screen studio, fixed rig, ...
Working knowledge of key industry agreements - ie. ACT/Equity, WGGB, FAA, working with Children, and rights clearances
