Assistant Editor

This vacancy is for an Assistant Editor based at VICE Media's European Headquarters in Shoreditch, London. The Data Lab supports the Post Production requirements of VICE Media's internal departments such as VICE Studios, VICE News, VICE Digital, i-D, Virtue, Noisey and VICELAND. The Assistant Editor provides support in all aspects of Post Production, from project setup to delivery.

Suitable for someone with previous Post Production experience in supporting Offline Editors, Online Editors and Audio Mixers, this role demands an innovative mind-set and a creative eye paired with an ability to juggle multiple requests.

This role operates on a shift pattern including the occasional evening and weekend shift.

Specific areas of responsibilities

You must have good assembly editing experience
You will be asked to do final technical changes on projects
Support Offline editors with assemblies and tech support where needed
Support Online Editors with DaVinci Resolve exports and laying back mixes
Carry out routine tasks such as ingests, conforms, file exports; making sure these tasks are correctly handed over for productions
Group and sync rushes into daily string outs
Carry out simple editing tasks as requested by Bookings or Editors
Manage media and metadata tagging in the VICE MAM system
Pre-selection of music, footage, and archive may be required as well as reporting on selections
Dealing with various types of file acquisition requests and transfers using encoding software and hardware
Create EDL's
You will be asked to cut social media cut-downs, reels as well as development teasers
Dealing with DPP files and delivery
To assist freelance staff with in-house workflows and housekeeping
Maintaining good relationships with our clients at all times
Liaising with external Post facilities from a technical perspective when work is externalised

Additional tasks may include:

Ensuring quality control and consistency to channel brand guidelines
Working with the management team to identify workflow improvements
Assisting with training new starters
Integrating design elements into finished video projects, presentations, web or print materials
You may be asked to work on location for time sensitive projects

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with previous experience in the broadcast industry and with at least one-year experience as an Assistant Editor.

You will have:

Solid working knowledge of Premiere Pro CC
Basic knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop
Experience of dealing with server based media in a MAM environment
You will be primarily using the Adobe Production Suite software though will be comfortable managing the transition of projects from any platform into Adobe and vice versa
Knowledge of Avid Media Composer, ProTools and Interplay a plus
Knowledge of Vantage Proxy workflows a plus
Basic level of NLE finishing skills including graphic design & integration, audio sweetening, colour correction and final delivery are required
A mix of Assistant Editor experience in long-form documentary and short-form branded content is preferable
Solid Assistant Editing experience in a broadcast environment a must
Media Management experience a must
The ability to quickly grasp technical concepts
The ability to identify when supervision and escalation is needed
Foreign languages a plus
Good understanding of VICE's output is expected
