Archivist/Booking Assistant

This is a role demanding a vast skillset and excellent organisational skills. The video archivist will be required to be across a range of stories from the start of the day, working on both tasks for the day and on archiving previously used material. They will also assist with co-ordination of work and the scheduling of the technical services needed by the newsroom.
The archivist will be expected to liaise with news teams, tech crews and make contact with content owners to negotiate use of their work. He or she will also be responsible for some of the live bookings and feeds coming into the newsroom and must always know at which stage any incoming material is.
He or she will be expected to problem solve and be proactive in achieving editorial objectives with limited resources. The video archivist will be able to maintain personal effectiveness in the times of pressure, setbacks or when dealing with tough situations. He or she will be able to work unsupervised and make decisions in a busy newsroom environment.
The role requires someone who is ready to take on responsibility and work unmanaged in busy situations. This person will be central to the workflow in the newsroom and must be prepared to work on their own, and as part of a team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Holding planning discussions with all programme producers, news editor, and web team, to establish what they will be covering, who they will be interviewing, and what accompanying content they will require
• Obtaining the required content within agreed deadlines, including externally sourcing media from other news agencies, content owners, and social media channels
• Using personal initiative and decision-making skills to source content and leverage permission from third party providers
• Ensuring all content produced meets RT UK's quality standards and is compatible with the channel's technical systems
• Liaising with a range of internal and external content providers, and maintaining friendly, constructive personal relationships with them, even in highly pressured circumstances
• Archiving and labelling relevant media for possible future use, ensuring it is well-organised and easily searchable for broadcast journalists
• Booking studio guests from around the world for live interviews as well as pre-records for our evening news broadcasts as well as other programmes
• Setting up recordings and feeds from agencies, parliament and our other RT studios
• Setting up recordings for News as well as our other programmes
• Searching for footage for broadcast journalists as well as for social media team and other programmes
• Liaising with cameramen to source new footage for News
