About the Ri

The Royal Institution (Ri) envisions a world where everyone is inspired to think more deeply about science and its place in our lives. To achieve the full benefits of what science has to offer, we must ensure there is a healthy and dynamic interaction between science, culture and society. Home to eminent scientists such as Michael Faraday, Humphry Davy and Kathleen Lonsdale, the Ri's discoveries have helped to shape the modern world. Just as importantly these scientists recognised the importance of sharing their work with the wider public.

Today we continue our mission as a registered charity providing science education and heritage activities for people of all ages and backgrounds across the UK and around the world. These activities include the world-famous CHRISTMAS LECTURES; public talks from the world's greatest thinkers in our historic lecture theatre; a national programme of Masterclasses for young people in mathematics, engineering and computer science; hands-on science workshops in our L'Oréal Young Scientist Centre; animations and films from our award-winning video production team and the preservation of our scientific legacy through the Faraday Museum and archival collections.

Job purpose

The Royal Institution is seeking an early-career animator to contribute to the ongoing development of online multimedia content for the organisation. The post-holder will be a confident, self-motivated individual who will work alongside our video producer and multimedia producers to produce and develop their own animations based on the Ri's unique content, heritage and science, as well as contributing animation work to video projects.

As the ideal candidate, you will be a self-motivated animator with a proven track record of creating engaging animations for a range of audience types. You will be able to work independently across multiple tasks and organise a busy schedule to deliver work on time. Knowledge of existing science-focused content is desirable but an interest in science and a passion for storytelling are vital.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved with the ongoing development of innovative online content and to work in a dynamic and exciting organisation, with plenty of potential for developing your skills whilst learning from colleagues who are passionate about digital science content production.
