Hi there
I need some advice about using collect photos/police handouts in a TV programme. I’ve been sent lots of collect photos from various picture agencies but only now are they telling me they don’t own the copyright, they merely supply the pictures. Does anyone have experience of clearing collect photos? Do you have to trace the copyright holder or is it ok to submit best endeavours?. I know that depends on the production contract but what about as a general rule? The photos are all relating to murder cases from between 5 and 35 years ago and collect photos make up a significant portion of stills for these programmes. If I can't find a way of clearing them I'm buggered.
If anyone out there has experience of this or could offer some advice I’d be really grateful.
