Wardrobe Assistant

We are looking for an experienced Wardrobe Assistant from Mon 15 August to Fri 16 December 2016.
You will assist in the creation and construction of costumes for Sheffield Theatres' own productions, while working closely with all wardrobe staff and designers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Construct costumes to a high standard.
• Work as part of a team, with a high degree of time management and flexibility ensuring the costumes are delivered on time.
• Complete costume notes accurately and sympathetically within the design required and to identify any construction problems when they arise.
• Contribute to the general organisation and care of costumes, during production and whilst in storage.
• Develop effective working relationships within the Wardrobe department and with Designers.
• Understand and facilitate the performance requirements of actors.
General
• As a term of your employment you may also be asked to undertake other such appropriate duties as and when required of you, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation
• Comply with the organisations dress and safety wear code.
• Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION/ COMPETENCIES
Essential:
• Skilled in costume construction and knowledgeable in costume history.
• Significant practical costume experience in theatre, television or film.
• Willingness to learn new techniques.
• Knowledge of working with a wide range of fabrics.
• A sound knowledge of workroom tools and machinery and willingness to learn/find out more.
• This is a manual job so you must be physically fit enough to carry out your daily tasks. You must also have good manual dexterity and co-ordination.
• Experience of maintaining high standards of costume provision through awareness of best practice including Health & Safety.
• Excellent problem solving and decision making.
• Good communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively within a busy environment including periods of intense pressure to meet non-negotiable deadlines e.g. First Night.
• A team-player who is personable, diplomatic and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally an externally.
• Energetic, enthusiastic, resourceful and able to cope with the demands of working flexibly within the hours that a theatre demands.
Desirable:
• Relevant qualification in costume history and making.
