Job Introduction

BBC Information and Archives, part of the Technology, Distribution and Archive Division is located in London, Caversham and throughout the English regional centres. We are a key contributor to the programme-making process and our core purposes are to acquire, identify, maintain, preserve and retrieve content (e.g. radio, programmes, stills etc) from the BBC's multi-media archive. We manage one of the world's largest audiovisual archives, in an environment where new technology, digitisation and creativity are at the forefront of developing improved access to this very valuable resource.
Role Responsibility

You'll play an important role in furthering the adoption of new technologies across I&A and be pro-active in delivering new archive capabilities & identifying potential opportunities for improvements in the quality and efficiency of existing processes. Running workshops, producing documentation and through one-to-one conversations you'll raise technical skills and awareness amongst Information and Archives staff which is a crucial part of your role. In addition you'll provide broad technical advice and consultancy across a range of projects as required, and will work with project teams to deliver hardware or software systems, technical standards or research knowledge.
The Ideal Candidate

We need your good knowledge and experience of technology and relevant techniques, with a range of experience from, for instance: IT, Information Security, On Air Technologies, Delivery Technology, Production Technology, Acquisition Technology, Enterprise Technology or Consumer Technology. You'll have proven experience, the majority of which should have been obtained within a technology innovation or implementation environment or similar, as well as knowledge of how emerging technologies can change the BBC. With an ability to build a plan/strategy for their integration into the business, you'll also understand how strategy can integrate into business processes and bring business benefits. Of course with all of this, you'll have the well-developed influencing skills and ability needed to write and communicate complex technologies and processes in a clear and coherent way.
