Department Overview The Factual Production and Development team develop and commission over 175 hours annually for the Discovery factual channel portfolio and Discovery Channel, which is available in more than 220 countries and territories and to over 365 million households outside the US. Discovery channel is the number 1 pay-TV channel in the world. The Production and Development department commission programs that will air globally across our key regions - Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia, Australia and Latin America. We also oversee a number of series and programmes for local factual channels including Quest and Discovery Turbo and commission content for the UK channels. Overall Purpose of the Role We are looking for a talented, self-motivated and hardworking individual to join the DNI (Discovery Networks International) Factual Department as a production and development intern. With a passion for factual programming you will work to the Executive Producers, supporting our key Discovery and local channel titles and gain valuable media industry knowledge and specific work skills. Through hands on training, internal work shadowing and external production placement, you will be introduced to the best in the business. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of program making first hand, learn how a broadcaster operates from the inside and increase your network base.Responsibilities:• Research projects pertaining to P&D, including gathering intelligence on the industry, material and data for focus groups, weekly bulletins and internal/external presentations• Keep up to date via newspapers, magazines, and social media to identify possible new talent and potential programme ideas• Curate updates spanning multiplatform and alternative broadcast and TV platforms• Manage our internal screening rooms and the creation of presentation reels, clips and program footage• Assist with the management and manage all factual submissions; treatments, taster tapes and pilots submitted from UK and Independent producers• Maintain relationships with key stakeholders throughout the business as a point of contact for any production requests• Where required, provide editorial support for our independent producers• Act as admin support for P&D when required• Produce and manage corporate presentation documentsRequirements:Desirable Skills/Experience required ? A keen multi-tasker with a 'Can do' attitude,? Strong research and writing skills? Resourceful attitude? Technically minded with a working knowledge of cameras and edit systems (specifically Final Cut & Premier Pro) and presentation packages (such as Keynote and PPT) would be advantageous A degree in media production (or similar) is not a pre-requisite. More important is a demonstrable, exemplary passion for TV, world knowledge of current programs, and a proven interest in pursuing a career in production.Please note this position is based in London.
