Job Description Job title Practical Programme Assistant to the Performing Arts Department. Responsible to: Curriculum Area Leader, Performing Arts. Job Purpose 1 To assist staff and students with performing arts lessons and productions. 2 To assist staff in the recording and evidencing of students work (Film, Audio, Stills, Online). 3 To provide practical support to the performing arts teachers in using specialist technical resources in teaching and learning (IWB, LX, SND, AV, Moodle). 4 To support the performing arts students in activities and enhance their use of technical resources and equipment. 5 To maintain and develop spaces and resources within the department. Description of Duties 1.1 To work alongside students and staff in the creation of student productions including the preparation of lighting, sound effects, projection, audio, staging, video, costume and prop. 1.2 To provide production management and technical support during day/evening performances including set and theatre preparation, rigging, lighting, sound and AV operation, ensuring Health and Safety awareness (Internal and external spaces). 2.1 To arrange filming and photography of performances, lessons and rehearsals for examination and department use including the creation of DVDs and editing footage ( Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premier) for the use on websites (Youtube and Vimeo). 3.1 To be responsible for setting up and dismantling lighting, sound and audio visual equipment in the dance and drama studios in preparation for teaching, as requested by staff. 4.1 To support students when using specialist performing arts technical resources and equipment. 4.2 To support students outside of their lesson time, by appointment, to improve their ability to use specialist performing arts technical resources and equipment. 5.1 To maintain, service and log departmental equipment, specifying and installing additional equipment as necessary in consultation with staff. Maintain spaces in collaboration with Site Care. 5.2 To establish links with approved suppliers and to specify equipment with an emphasis on application, maintenance, cost and future expansion, ensuring compatibility with existing equipment. 5.3 To perform reprographics tasks such as photocopying, laminating, binding and recording resources from the television. 5.4 To oversee all aspects of equipment safety and maintenance within the department and to ensure all Health and Safety procedures appropriate for the performance and studio spaces are fully adhered to. Insure any external spaces used comply with WMSF Health and Safety regulations 5.5 To maintain and update personal training and development needs, in the light of changes to the technical aspects of theatre and documenting of practical work. 5.6 To provide training to staff in the use of performing arts resources such as new specialist software. 5.7 To manage dance and drama studio bookings, classroom bookings and enrichment activities associated with dance and drama
